Then we’ve got the spoken words by our new protagonist. Potentially, mechanical knowledge plus vehicle parts could give us transport for the first time.? All of these vehicles explode pretty well when fired at: meaning they still contain gas. Fallout 3 had a hell of a lot of cars and motorbikes around, not to mention the Enclave vertibirds. Is it a minigun? Some other weapon? Machinery? The main image seems to be a garage. The thing that really has me puzzled is covered with a sheet in front of the drawers in the garage. We can see some very familiar items in the trailer: the (broken) Mr Gutsy in the corner of the garage the trademark power armor the laser rifle parts on the wall the bobblehead on the table. Skyrim showed us some of the potential for Fallout 4 in terms of NPC interactions, multi-way conversations and reactions to the player: no doubt Fallout will take this to the next level. Could it be that we play the game before and after the bombs drop? If the Railroad and the Commonwealth are involved, we should expect to meet androids as well as humans.
That time shift in the trailer looked very interesting – we see glimpses of the green and vibrant pre-war world. And we know that this is the next generation of Fallout, as the first Xbox One/PS4-ready game in the series. We know that we’ll be waking up from a cryogenic sleep in a post-war world – potentially with pre-war memories. We have a vault-dwelling protagonist, a furry companion, and some familiar-looking weapons and clothing. Fallout 3 gave us a peek at the Commonwealth during The Replicated Man – it seems we’re going to be seeing much more of them.
Well, we’ve got a location for the game: Boston, Massachusetts.
Bethesda’s 2015 E3 conference is just a couple of hours away now, and we’re sure to get at least a glimpse of some actual gameplay: hopefully this will clear up some of the many, many, MANY questions raised by the trailer. Sure, there’s a few texture issues spotted by keen-eyed design types, but the overall look and feel is incredible. Like pretty much everybody else who’s fallen in love with the Fallout series, the recently released Fallout 4 trailer had me as hyped as a kid on a Nuka binge.
